Asthma Attack Home Remedies

Are There Asthma Attack Home Remedies - Or Just Hot Air?

If you have asthma and you start looking for information on the Internet, you'll soon find several websites offering "100% sure" asthma attack home remedies. And it is very probable that you'll feel tempted to buy one of them. No one likes being forced to take corticosteroids on a daily basis and an alternative, sometimes any alternative is always welcome. If effective asthma attack home remedies were really available at your drug store, of course you would buy them.

Do you see a logical problem there? Home remedies are by definition not bought, so avoid buying "asthma attack home remedies". If you're going to take some pills, make sure that you really know what's inside them.

But the fact that some people try to sell asthma attack home remedies doesn't mean that there are no remedies beside advanced chemistry. There are some that can not only prevent, but also stop an asthma attack. Such home remedies can be easily used as a support for a standard treatment, especially in case of mild asthma, but they should never replace standard medications.

Below there are a few asthma and asthma attack home remedies. Some of them work wekk, some of them are just "supposed" to work, but fortunately all of them are completely safe. Generally, all of them are different methods of warming your airways. This often prevents or helps during an asthma attack.

Hot bathroom

During an asthma attack, some people run into their bathroom, close the door and try to create as much warm steam as possible. Alternatively, they have a very hot bath or try some similar home remedy. The increased air temperature eases the attack and makes breathing much easier, though if you don't suffer from asthma, we might think just the opposite.

Of course if your asthma is severe, it is recommended to use your inhaler or nebulizer instead of any asthma attack home remedies.

Hot water or coffee

Another common acne home remedy is drinking hot coffee, tea or plain hot water. On their way down, these drinks warm the airways and can ease the attack. The mechanism of these asthma attack home remedies is similar to the hot bathroom ones, but they are much easier to apply. The only problem is that during an acute attack this might be not enough. Yes, asthma attack home remedies may seem simple, but often they are very effective.

Asthma Cough Symptoms

How To Recognize Asthma Cough Symptoms

A persistent, chronic cough should not be ignored, particularly in children and could be a common symptom of asthma. Asthma cough is different than a conventional cough and it's important to differentiate between the two. One of the most difficult things for parents is determining what is asthma cough and what is conventional coughing. There is a distinct difference. In fact, don't guess. The best course of action is to make an appointment to see your doctor. The truth is doctors even have difficulty in establishing the difference between the two.

Identifying Asthma Cough

Let's look at what asthma cough is. Essentially, asthma cough is non productive. By non productive, mucus isn't brought up. In fact, it's unique and has a sound all to it's own. It's very much a dry, wheezing sound and can persist until a child or adult gets to the stage where they are gasping for air. So no mucus and the chances are it's an asthma cough: if their is mucus, then it may be the signs of an impending cold.

The Cause Of Asthma Cough?

The most likely cause are allergens or irritants. The home is a common trigger factor and harbors a number of these symptom producing culprits. When a person reacts to these allergens or irritants the result will be a swelling in the airways causing muscle spasms in and around the bronchial passages. Because it's an irritant and not mucus productive, the obvious reaction is to cough and the reason why it's dry. Trying to force the irritating factor through the bronchial passages means the coughing will usually be prolonged and eventually lead to shortness of breath and dry reaching.

Asthma Cough Treatment

One of the best responsive treatments is the use of bronchodilators. They are effective in loosening the muscles around the bronchial tubes, soothing the cough and providing much needed respite to the sufferer. Lack of air movement when the muscles become tight around the bronchial tubes is akin to a "bear hug" being applied the use of broncodilators eases this restrictive effect, forcing the air back through the passages.

Effective treatment also includes the use of inhaled corticosteroids. This anti-inflammatory treatment has the effect of easing the swelling, usually chronic, around the bronchial area thus making their job of forcing out any irritants a lot easier.

Other Treatment Methods

Herbal specialists have been sought in recent times and recommendations such as tea, black or green, are said to provide some relief against asthma cough symptoms. Honey can also provide relief particularly before going to bed at night. How effective these treatments are compared to more traditional medical treatments shouldn't really be an issue as they are intended more to compliment those treatments. Eliminating most of the allergens and irritants from the home may not be possible, in fact, it's nigh on impossible however, with good management practice techniques, asthma cough incidence can be kept to a minimum.

Arthritis Hand Pain

Top 3 Ways to Cure Arthritis Hand Pain

Hand arthritis can occur mainly in three areas, such as wrist joint, finger joints, and knuckle joints. When these joints are affected by arthritis, daily activities such as writing, threading needle or tying shoelace etc. become very difficult. Out of all forms, hand arthritis is very perilous. However it is possible to get relief from pains associated through natural remedies.

Top three ways to cure arthritis hand pains are:

-Use of Alternative Medicines: Few alternative medicines are found to be very successful in relieving pain. One of the most popular alternative medicines is the use of herbs & massages. Acupuncture and visiting a chiropractor can be equally helpful for curing hand pain.

-Non-surgical Treatment: Three most popular non-surgical treatments are medications, injections, and splinting.

Medication: Medications works as anti-inflammatory drugs. Anti-inflammatories are capable of stopping the body from producing chemical, responsible for swelling & pain. Tylenol and Advil are two most popular over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs. Celebrex is a popular prescription drug for arthritic pain relief. Though medications treat symptoms, they are unable to restore joint cartilage or joint damage.

Injections: When anti-inflammatory medications are ineffective, injections are used. These injections contain a long lasting anesthetic & steroid. These injections are capable of providing pain relief, which can varies from weeks to months depending upon the amount of doses.

Splinting: Splints have to be used when joint hurts. The splint helps to support the joints. Splinting works along with injections as supplementary.

-Surgical Treatment: If non-surgical option fails to relief the arthritis hand pains, then surgery should be preferred. Usually surgery is the best option in providing long-term pain relief. Joint replacement is one of the popular methods in the surgical treatment.

Though these are the best three ways to cure arthritis hand pain, these can have possible site effects. Possible side effects of injections are lightening of the skin, weakening of the tendons and ligaments. Infections may be one of the major side effects of these practices.

Hip Arthritis

Hip Arthritis - Pain Relief
Hip arthritis is without doubt one of the most common forms of arthritis- which can have many different causes. There is one factor in common however- this is loss of cartilage from the hip joint. The loss of cartilage results in the hip bones grinding unnaturally together, resulting in pain. Hip arthritis advances quite quickly once it sets in, and pain and treatment options vary greatly depending on the patient's age, health and lifestyle.

Once hip arthritis has been diagnosed, the doctor will consider both surgical and non-surgical options for treatment. The doctor may recommend combining several treatment methods. Simple non-invasive treatments for hip arthritis include weight loss, anti-inflammatory medication such as Naprosyn and Ibuprofen, and lifestyle changes- such as taking up regular walking. These non-surgical methods assist in reducing the pain, and preventing symptoms re-occurring. Sufferers of hip arthritis should be aware of some claims of the benefits of "Pharmaceuticals" such as Glucose supplements in treating hip arthritis. There is no strong evidence that links their effectiveness with hip arthritis and they are not FDA regulated in the US.

In terms of surgical treatment options for hip arthritis there are 2: Osteotomy, wherein the surgeon cuts the bone to re-align the hip joint and Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA), which means total hip joint replacement. The latter is obviously more serious.

THA is the most common form of surgery used to treat hip arthritis. The doctor will need to analyze various factors before deciding that THA is the best treatment for hip arthritis. The beauty of THA is that in time it will allow most patient to regain normal use of their hips, so they can resume the activities which may be so dear to them. Another strong reason for pursuing THA as a viable treatment option for hip arthritis, is the fact that the pain will be eased immeasurably- specifically the pain experienced at night, which is the worst. THA is not necessarily the best treatment option for everyone. Many patients will be able to comfortably modify their lifestyles to reduce the need to pursue the THA procedure.

Many sufferers of hip arthritis are pursuing THA, due to recent medical advancements, and the brilliance of surgeons specifically in the US. Further to this the materials used nowadays in THA are totally durable, meaning they will not break down over time. These recent developments have seen a spike in the number of patients been encouraged to pursue THA as a viable and effective treatment option for hip arthritis.

The is an extremely effective and safe procedure performed under anesthetic, which greatly lowers the risks of surgery-related complications and allows for a faster recovery- and hence less time off from work. Currently in the US, patients undergoing THA do not remain in hospital for longer than 5 days. Hip joint replacement usually has an extremely high success rate with 85 to 95 percent success rate over a period of 20 years. This is re-assuring for sufferers of hip arthritis, as it provides a swift method of dealing with the pain for the long term.

Antiviral Drugs For Herpes

Acyclovir (Zovirax), an antiviral drug effective in the treatment of herpes simplex infection, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)in 1984. Since its approval, the effects of acyclovir on human pregnancies have not been determined. Acyclovir passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Antiviral Herbs

There are many fantastic antiviral herbs. This is good news for those who want to take better care of their health and combat illness without the use of pharmaceuticals. Here we will talk about the best natural antivirals and their attributes.

Some of the best antiviral herbs include oregano, echinacea, garlic, astragalus, schizandra, elderberry, mullein, licorice, and green tea.

* Oregano has been used for hundreds of years to fight viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. This is a well known herb for seasoning food, particularly Italian dishes. However, this is a powerful foe against germs.

* Echinacea is well known for its ability to boost the immune system. It is said to stimulate white blood cell production, thus helping the body to fight viruses more effectively. This herb is best taken early on when an infection is first suspected for best results.

* Garlic is a very powerful antiviral herb that is very effective when used to fight the common cold and flu viruses as well as strep and staph infections. Garlic is wonderfully aromatic and is best consumed fresh, but it is also available in capsule and tablet form for those who want its health benefits without the garlic breath.

* Astragalus is another excellent immune strengthener and a very effective antiviral herb for combating the common cold and flu.

* Schizandra is one of the lesser known herbal antivirals which has been found to be very successful when treating viral hepatitis.

* Elderberry has been used as an herbal remedy against various viral infections for thousands of years. It is beneficial in fighting colds, flus, and upper respiratory infections. Typically, elderberry is most effective in lozenge and syrup form.

* Mullein provides antiviral, anti-inflammatory, calming, and expectorant properties, among other benefits. It is an excellent herbal choice for those suffering with congestion.

* Licorice is another excellent antiviral herb that is very effective against viruses and bacteria as well as fungal infections. Individuals with hypertension should avoid taking licorice.

* Green tea has been found effective in preventing the spread of the flu virus as well as promoting overall good health due to its high levels of antioxidants and catechins ECG and EGCG.

Antiviral Essential Oils
Some wonderful antiviral essential oils include eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, juniper oil, and lemon balm oil. These are helpful to use along with the above herbs when fighting a viral illness.

* Eucalyptus oil contains known antiviral compounds to help speed healing. Add a few drops of oil to a warm bath and breathe in the steam to help ease congestion. Can also be used in massage oil or applied to pulse points.

* Tea tree oil is another effective antiviral essential oil and can be applied full strength to external areas or gargled in water for sore throat.

* Juniper oil is a potent antiviral that has been found effective against the herpes and flu viruses. It can be used in a diffuser, as a massage oil, or in a soothing bath.

Nail Fungus

Lavender for Nail Fungus

Natural healers often recommend using essential oils from herbs such as thyme, oregano, mint, and even lavender for nail fungus treatment. Lavender (from the scientific genus Lavandula) is not one of the commonest herbs mentioned in this regard, but it is a member of the mint family and scientific studies have shown that it does have some antifungal properties. Aromatic herbs, which must fend off the attacks of fungi and other organisms in nature, seem to produce potent substances that can be extracted or distilled from the plant to produce a concentrated antifungal substance.

Lavandula antifungal properties are perhaps the least well known of the herb's many uses - esthetic, culinary, and medicinal. Lavender has long been used to create a sweet flowery scent in perfumes, bath water, linens, and closets. It is used to flavor teas, potato dishes and other foods. It is known to have a calming effect and has been used in many first aid remedies including medicines for headache, wound dressings, and insect bites, and as a treatment for chronic health problems such as rheumatism, psoriasis and parasitic infections, to name just a few. Lavender has antiparasitic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties, characteristics that explain why herbalists recommend lavender for nail fungus treatment.

The mechanism for lavandula antifungal activity is not well understood, but it may act in similar ways to essential oils from other herbs. Fungi that are actively growing spread by putting out long fine branching stalks called hyphae - most people have seen this type of growth on occasion when mold starts to grow on food items. It has been noted that essential herbal oils seem to eat away at the walls of hyphae, causing them to disintegrate and lose their inner contents. Interestingly, some studies show that a preparation that contains other essential oils as well as lavender for nail fungus may work better than single oils by themselves. For example, lavender oil appears to be synergistic with tea tree oil, meaning that the two mutually increase each other's positive effects.

Fungal nail infections have always been notoriously hard to treat and modern medicine, despite many attempts to find effective antifungals, hasn't been very successful at developing drugs that are both safe and effective. In this respect the potential of herbal oils such as lavandula antifungal extract provide considerable hope for people who don't want to take a systemic drug which may cause unpleasant side effects. Many preparations from alternative medicine vendors today contain special blends of essential oils including lavender for nail fungus, and there is a growing collection of literature confirming that these remedies do work. If you're looking for an alternative to an expensive prescription drug for a nail fungus infection, a natural remedy containing essential oils is worth a try.

Before starting self-treatment with lavender for nail fungus, or any other alternative or home remedy, have your nail infection confirmed by a medical professional: other nail conditions can look similar but will not respond to antifungal remedies.

Essential Oils

An Oil Held in High Regard in the East
Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Java, Australia and southeastern Asia. The oil today comes from Australia where steam distillation is used on the fresh leaves and twigs. This is a tall evergreen tree that grows up to 98 feet in height. It has thick pointed leaves and white flowers. It uniquely has a flexible trunk with whitish, spongy bark that flakes off easily. Traditionally cajeput in the East is was used for colds, headaches, throat infections, toothache, sore and aching muscles, fever, rheumatism and various skin disease. It was used in the herbal tradition to produce a sensation of warmth and quickening of the pulse. Native peoples used it for chronic laryngitis and bronchitis, cystitis, rheumatism and to expel roundworms.

How Can We Benefit from Cajeput Essential Oil Today?

Today we observe cajeput to have antibacterial, antiparasitic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It is used for throat, lung, and sinus infections, for urinary tract infections, coughs, and intestinal problems. Cajeput can be taken internally by diluting it 50-50 with a vegetable oil, it can be diluted 50-50 and applied on location, on the chakras/vita flex points, it can be directly inhaled, or diffused. Antiparasitic Formula

Black Walnut has high tannin content which accounts for its main anti-worm function along with jugalone, juglandin, and juglandic acid. It oxygenates the blood to destroy the parasites like ringworm. Black Walnut can also help the body balance sugar levels as well as burn up toxins and fatty materials. Juglans plex has the benefits of Black Walnut and the anti-septic (bacteria fighting), anti-fungal, and anti-helminthic abilities.

Abesthine Wormwood, of the same genus as the famous anti-malarial Sweet Wormwood, acts as an anti-helminthic, antiseptic, and intestinal soothing agent. And, just as malaria is purged by Sweet Wormwood, other parasites are eliminated by Absenthine Wormwood.

Both of these herbs act on the adult form of the parasites which kills them and stops them from reproducing. Cloves kill the egg from so that they may not spawn into more parasites.

THE PARASITES
Opportunistic parasites pathogens overwhelms the normal intestinal flora, damage the mucosal lining, and suppress immunity. Juglans Plex is Phytovi's unique formula of herbs known for their anti-parasitic, anti-fungal functions, and candidiasis control. Parasites are all around us. We can get them from other people, pets, undercooked meat or dairy products.

Where ever we pick them up, they mean us no good and can cause all manners of disturbances in out homeostasis. They can cause unpleasant, inconvenient, and when uncontrolled, potentially dangerous. But, we have the power to get rid of them with the assistance Juglan Plex can provide.

CANDIDIASIS
Is an overgrowth of the fungal yeast causing infection, mycosis. It is most commonly caused by Candida Albicans. It can range from a superficial infection of mucosal membranes to life threatening systemic situations in immunocompromised patients.

Antifungals and Probiotics For Your Candida

This article will discuss about anti-fungals and when to take them. This idea is based on the question from a friend of mine. She was wondering when the best time to take anti-fungals and probiotics is. Her candida, which she was just about on top of, has made a very unwelcome bid to return this week, and she needs a strategy to nip it in the bud before she goes back to square one.

She's read in the various sources that anti-fungals should be taken with meals, immediately before meals, or between meals, and that probiotics should be taken as far away as possible from anti-fungals or an hour after them, so that they can fill the gaps left by newly-killed yeast. All of these differing opinions confused her, because all of them seem to make sense. She's currently rotating GSE, garlic and caprylic acid.

Dealing with the above situations, some people said not to take probiotics till the yeast is under control, otherwise it is going to waste. Some doctors suggest that it is not advisable to take antibiotics and also antifungals at the same time because doing so could promote the resistance of fungal organisms against which no therapy would be effective.

If antibiotic therapy is necessary, it is advisable to subsequently do the anti-candida program for a month or more, but only after antibiotics is discontinued. Doctors recommend discontinuing antifungals if it is necessary to take an antibiotic. I believe the combination can promote the growth of Candida tropicalis. Probiotics has to be continued throughout.

Antifungals For Candida Treatment

This article will describe briefly about antifungals that are important for candida treatment. In the lists of antifungals that are available on the internet, tea tree oil is there (which it should be), but it's always listed for external skin conditions. You can also take tea tree oil internally to fight infections and candida, you just have to be sure the oil is NOT labeled "For External Use Only."

The dose would be 1-3 drops, 2-3 times daily. This was one of common treatments of a doctor when his patients had candida and it did help. You could put the oil drops in a small amount of water and then drink down. Don't go over 3 drops with the dosage as more drops could irritate the kidneys. Also, just for information, New Zealand tea tree oil is more powerful than Australian.

The lists need to mention enteric-coated peppermint oil-very effective for candida and for reducing the spasms of ulcerative colitis.

Also, fresh aloe vera gel is sometimes good for fungal skin conditions. Keeping the skin dry, though, is paramount as candida likes damp heat. Some of the baby powders actually have antifungal ingredients in them because diaper rash is really candida!

In America, Diaparene has undecylenate in it, the same ingredient in SF-722. Also, American health food stores can get an antifungal body powder made by ProSeed, it contains undecylenate and GSE. To some people and several doctors, they tend to have the best success using the homeopathic candida remedy.

Herbs Or Prescription Antifungals

My friend recently went to a homeopath who told her that she has Candida. A special remedy, Candistatin and Oil of Oregano were prescribed for her. She was told to do a yeast free diet and to come back in a month after the candida is gone. A guy from some candida forum said to her that she is wasting her money by going to a naturopath and said that herbs are not strong enough to kill yeast and she needs to seek the help of his MD in Washington, so that she can be prescribed some prescription antifungals. She realized that is going to take more than a month to get well, but she is also wondering if the herbs really help.

She has been suffering candida for 12 years and would finally like to enjoy her family and life in general. She is very desperate to get well, and confused in choosing the way to cure her self. Do the herbs really help? Or do the prescription antifungals work faster?

Personally, I don't agree with the forum guy who persuaded her to take some prescription antifungals. I'm taking herbal antifungals, grapefruit seed extract and caprylic acid, and having phenomenal results from them, and I know many peoples who have rid themselves of candida entirely without ever taking prescription antifungals. Maybe he has had brilliant results from the MD he suggested, but we are all different and not all of us respond well to prescription antifungals. I prefer the herbal route because I'm on control of it, and I know I'm not going to get walloped by weird side-effects like the prescribed one would do.

I really don't think going to homeopath is a money waste. A homeopath chooses the right treatments, which interact nicely with your personal body chemistry, personality, immune system, even childhood factors. Herbs work for many people, just be patient because there is no such things as instant results.

Three Antidepressant Herbs

Most of us feel sad, miserable or 'down in the dumps' sometimes. We can feel like this when someone we love has died or moves away or we have lost a job or our home or have difficult things or circumstances to cope with. Usually, these feeling become less intense over time -- especially, when other good things are happening in our life. However, when these feeling of being sad or down are intense and persistent and stop us from doing the things that we would normally do then it is likely that we have a depressive illness.

The depressive illness can range from interfering with our usual activities and relationships (mild to moderate depression) to making it hard to relate or communicate with others or to do day-to-day tasks ( debilitating or severe depression). If you or someone you know has depression (mild, moderate or severe) it is important to seek professional health care. However, there are many things that the depressed person can do to help themselves -- the information on herbal remedies provided in this article is particularly geared to someone with mild or moderate depression.

There are many herbs that are able to help lift the spirits, help a person to relax and relieve stress (which is often at the base of depression). This article concentrates on the following anti-depressive herbs:
  • damiana,
  • ginseng,
  • lady's slipper
There are many other herbs that are widely known for their anti-depressive qualities and some of these will be explored in other articles. You will notice from the description of the herbs that are included here that they have many qualities other than relieving depression. These additional qualities can be beneficial to the body -- as well as elevating the mood. They can support the body in dealing with other conditions that may in themselves contribute to the depression

Damiana (Turnera aphrodisiaca)

Damiana is a strengthener for the nervous system. It also has an ancient reputation as an aphrodisiac - this may or may not be true but it is a tonic for the central nervous and hormonal systems. The pharmacology of the plant suggests that it has a testosterone like action.

Damiana is an anti-depressant and is considered a specific for anxiety and depression where there is a sexual factor.
It can be used to strengthen the male sexual system.
As a nerve tonic it is often used with oats and depending on the situation it combines well with kola or skullcap.

Ginseng (Panax Ginseng (Chinese/Korean/Japanese), panax quinquefolius (American) Eleutherococcus senticosus (Siberian)). It is also known as man root, life root and heal all.

Ginseng root protects the body and nervous system from stress, stimulates and increases metabolic function, enhances physical and mental efficiency by improving circulation. It also helps to keep balanced blood pressure and glucose levels, increase gastrointestinal movement, iron metabolism, and promote RNA synthesis.

Ginseng:
  • stimulates the nervous system and boosts energy,
  • stimulates hormone secretion,
  • lowers blood cholesterol level,
  • protects cells from damage due to radiation and exposure to toxins,
  • enhances memory, concentration and learning,
  • helps to lessen the effects of stress,
  • improves liver detoxification function,
  • improves the appetite,
  • helps to elevate the mood (anti-depressant action) and
  • improves sleep.

Lady's Slipper (Cypripedium pubescens)

Lady's slipper is one of the most widely applicable nerviness available. It can be used in all stress reactions, emotional tension and anxiety states. It will help to elevate the mood -- especially where depression is present. It can help ease nervous pain -- though it is best used in combination with other herbs for this purpose. It can be used to treat anxiety that is associated with insomnia.
Lady's slipper combines well with oats and skullcap. For nerve pain it can be used with Jamaican dogwood, passion flower and valerian.

Damiana, ginseng and lady's slipper are three herbs that can be used to help with depression especially for those with mild to moderate depression. If you have depression it is important that you seek professional help. You will also benefit by joining an overcoming depression program.

Antidepressant Medication Research

What Is Antidepressant Medication Research and Where Is It Heading?

The main focus of most antidepressant medication research is how to counter the various side effects that these medications cause. Besides that, the research also wants to discover how these side effects work and which medications give the best results when taken. It has been known that side effects occur because the client's body produces resistance to the actions of the drugs, thereby sending signals to the brain through the neurotransmitters that affect serotonin and norephinephrine.

Antidepressant medication research has also found out that most of these antidepressants' effectively starts after several days or weeks at a time because studies have shown that the body's brain adapts slowly to the effects these medications want to achieve. Another research is to discover how these antidepressants will achieve the long term effects of these drugs and how to combat any side effects that may arise. Discovery on how antidepressants function when taken into the body will be a big help in finding out what actions to take to lessen side effects and to know which antidepressants will give the most benefits versus the side effects that it may produce.

Another antidepressant medication research gears on the possibility of multiple medications that will treat depression and anxiety disorder jointly. Anxiety disorders consist of but not limited to post traumatic stress disorders, societal withdrawal, and panic disorders. It has been known that anxiety disorders are the reasons why an increased number of suicidal attempts occur. Some antidepressant research is directed to learning the various effects of SSRIs antidepressants and how these medications affect suicide attempts in patients taking them. Some studies have shown that SSRIs such as fluoxatine, sertraline, and escitalopram have affected suicidal tendencies mostly in children and adolescents.

Antidepressant medication research was able to discover that when children undergo antidepressant medication therapy, their suicidal tendencies lessen. Additionally, herbal medication such as St. John's wort and hypericum has been proven effective in decreasing depression by this antidepressant research.

Antidepressant Side Effects

MAOIs hold the potential to induce life-threatening problems. The Side Effects associated with its use are hypertensive crisis, rapid heartbeat, blood cell problems, insomnia, dizziness, headache, fluid retention, and loss of appetite. It therefore cannot be used in patients of congestive cardiac failure or in those with a history of liver disease. It is unsafe for those who are hypersensitive to its ingredients.

Though the type of Side Effects experienced by the patient due to TCAs or MAOIs are many times similar, the frequency of these Side Effects is much less in the case of TCAs. Thus, TCAs enjoy a better rate of acceptance by the patients. The potential Side Effects of TCAs are allergic reactions, blood cell problems, blurred vision, dry mouth, weakness, fatigue, weight gain, constipation, difficulty with urination, sexual dysfunction, sweating, muscle twitches, rash, dizziness, tremors, ECG abnormalities, seizures, stroke, and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (with amoxapine). The secondary amine TCAs (desipramine and nortriptyline) are generally better tolerated than tertiary amine TCAs.

The SSRIs are associated with nausea, anorexia, anxiety, agitation, insomnia, headache, dizziness, tremor somnolence, sweating, dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation, and sexual dysfunction as the general Side Effects. The sexual Side Effects of SSRIs often become the reason for its desired discontinuation.

The currently available SNRIs (desipramine, duloxetine, nefazodone, and venlafaxine) keep both serotonin and norepinephrine at the right level to alleviate depressive symptoms. The Side Effects associated with the use of nefazodone include dry mouth, constipation, and somnolence. Venlafaxine has significant anticholinergic effects (dry mouth, blurred vision, urinary hesitancy, and constipation) and induces sedation. Other Side Effects observed with its use are hypertension, agitation, tremor, sweating, headache, nausea and sleep disturbances. It has potential withdrawal effects.

The drug bupropion (Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR) is contraindicated in patients with seizure disorder or a history of anorexia nervosa or bulimia. Agitation, tremor, insomnia, decreased appetite, GI upset and psychoses are the bupropion-induced common Side Effects. The most common adverse effects of mirtazapine (a tetracyclic Antidepressant) include increased appetite, weight gain, lethargy and dizziness.

The most commonly associated Side Effects with the use of St. John's wort (a natural Antidepressant) include fatigue, sedation, restlessness, anxiety, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, gastrointestinal symptoms, and skin reactions. Studies have reported that the rates of adverse events with St. John's wort are comparable to those with a placebo.

MS Pain Relief

No matter what stage of multiple sclerosis a person is in, they will experience some level of pain. As the disease progresses some form of MS pain relief is going to be needed as that pain levels can become quite acute. Unfortunately for most people the standard over the counter NSAIDs have little to no effect on their pain and most physicians end up prescribing a range of anticonvulsants and antidepressants to help lower the patient's pain levels.

About the Pain

In a recent report put together by the National MS Society it is estimated that at least 50 percent of all multiple sclerosis patients suffer with some level of chronic pain. The hardest part of finding MS pain relief that works is that the disease affects everyone differently. Each person can experience different levels of pain in separate areas of their body at the same time or at different times and no two people are likely to experience the same pains.

Because multiple sclerosis is a disease that attacks the central nervous system, the pains can occur suddenly, be excruciating and then be gone just as quickly. Other pains can be chronic and last for hours or days; either type of pain needs to be dealt with as they can definitely take away from the patient's quality of life.

Treatments that Offer MS Pain Relief

Since none of the common over the counter pain medications such as aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen are of any use as a form of MS pain relief, many physicians use much stronger medications. These include drugs such as Neurontin or other anticonvulsants as well as a variety of antidepressants such as Elavil. However all of these medications are known to have side effects such as weight gain, cotton mouth and in worse case scenarios have been known to cause seizures.

If the drugs can cause symptoms that are almost worse than the pain that they are supposed to be relieving, what is a person supposed to do? Most holistic practitioners will tell you that eating a healthy diet that includes seafood that is high in Omega 3 fatty acids and plenty of green vegetables combined with plenty of exercise at a level the patient can manage will help significantly with MS pain relief.

One of the latest treatments being tried is Botox. This product is used to reduce wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles and nerves. Recent research is showing that the same paralysis of the nerves can help with MS pain relief; however it has not yet been approved by the FDA for widespread use.

I have benefited greatly from a book which has examined the link between what we eat and multiple sclerosis. If you would like to know what foods are attacking your body, what supplements you must take and how to create the energy that you need, then this book is a must read.

I am not a doctor nor am I qualified in medicine in any way. These are things that have worked for me in controlling my MS. Before undertaking any diet or fitness regime you should always consult your physician first.

Relieving Pain

Current Thoughts on Drug Treatments For Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic pain results from damage to or dysfunction in the nervous system, triggered by trauma, infections and nervous system disorders. This type of pain is difficult to treat and often requires a combination of pharmacological therapies, psychological counseling and the use of some form of alternative and complementary medicine. In 2007, a study cited in the Journal of Pain estimated that 170 to 270 million people around the world suffer from peripheral neuropathy (e.g., phantom limb syndrome and complex regional pain syndrome) and neuropathic pain.

Neuropathic pain can be described as numbing or burning, plus sensations of tingling, electric shock, crawling, itching, or shooting. Excruciating pain can be caused by even the lightest touch. Mild pain stimuli are perceived as very painful. Pain on one side of the body is also felt on the other side. The area of pain increases to include larger and larger areas of the body.

Common Drug Treatments for Neuropathic Pain

o Antidepressants

Several types of antidepressants have analgesic effects (e.g., SSRI's, SNRI's, and TCA's) and can alleviate pain, but only one, duloxetine, has been approved for pain treatment by the Federal Drug Administration.

o Anticonvulsants

Several anticonvulsants (e.g., gabapentin, pregabalin) are used as standard treatment choices for neuropathic pain, even without definitive studies and in spite of such side effects as dizziness, sleep problems, or fatigue.

o Topical Medications

Topical medications (e.g., capsaicin - the pungent ingredient in hot chili -- and lidocaine) work on a small local area of the body, so they do not usually cause systemic side effects and rarely any interaction effects with other drugs. However, if the pain extends to a wider area of the body, topical treatment would not be as effective.

o Opioid

Studies have shown that opioids (e.g., oxydodone and morphine) do alleviate the pain in different neuropathic pain conditions. Common side effects of opioids include sedation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and respiratory depression. The long term use of opioids can also lead to physical dependency which should not be confused with physical addiction. Patients who are taking opioids to alleviate pain, if they have a prior history of drug addiction, sometimes find themselves triggered back into their addiction. Those who do not have a history of drug addiction do not first develop such an addiction from being treated with opioids.

o Other Medications

Additional medications often used to treat neuropathic pain include muscle relaxants, antispasmodics, anxiolytics (anti-anxiety, tranquilizers), sedatives-hypnotics, and psychostimulants. Current clinical trials of cannabis-based drugs (drugs containing a substance found in marijuana) indicate potential to alleviate neuopathic pain.

Continuum of Treatments for Neuropathic Pain

In 1990, The World Health Organization established guidelines for the treatment of malignant pain. This approach recommends beginning with the least invasive and the most easily manageable treatments first before attempting more invasive interventions such as pharmaceuticals, neurostimulation or opioid delivery through a reservoir or pump implanted directly inside the patient's body.

o Exercise
o Meditation and relaxation
o Over-the-counter medications
o Prescribed medications
o Physical rehabilitation
o Cognitive and behavioral therapies
o Oral opioid medications
o Nerve blocking
o Spinal cord stimulation
o Intraspinally administered opioids
o Tissue destruction procedures

Complementary and Alternative Treatments for Neuropathic Pain

Many methods considered complementary and alternative healing modalities are not mentioned in the above list. Treatments that may have profound healing and pain relieving possibilities include the following.

o Mind-body awareness, mindfulness, guided imagery and visualization
o Breath work
o Body therapy (e.g., massage, acupressure, acupuncture, Therapeutic Touch, etc.)
o Somatic Body Psychotheapy
o Expressive arts and movement therapies
o Diet and herbs and homeopathic remedies
o Aromatherapy

If you are currently suffering from neuropathic pain or chronic pain from another cause, it may be worth your while to at least check out some of the methods listed above before subjecting your body to more invasive treatments.

Anticonvulsants Market to 2016

Various anticoagulants, both branded and off-label are being used for the treatment of many indications such as epilepsy, fibroblast, migraine, osteopathic pain, bipolar disorder and anxiety. The patents of leading anticoagulants such as Topmast (respirator), Trilateral (oxcarbazepine), Departed (divalent sodium), Kepler (levetiracetam), Lamictal (lamotrigine) and Tegretol (carbamazepine) expired in 2007-2008. The wide applicability of the anticonvulsants for management of the various indications has caused the emergence of generics for these anticonvulsants in the market. This generic erosion will cause decline in the anticonvulsant market in the future.

Two anticonvulsants, Fosphenytoin and Stedesa have been filed in the US with FDA and 44% of the total anticonvulsants product pipeline is in Phase III clinical studies. The majority of these molecules are being studied as monotherapies for the treatment of epilepsy. The expected launch of these new anticonvusants in the future is expected to to stabilize the declining anticonvulsant market.

Lyrica (prefabbing) is the branded conversant product of Pfizer. Lyrica is indicated for the treatment of the epilepsy, fibroblast and osteopathic pain. Lyrica along with Neuron tin (parenting) is the first line of therapy for the treatment of osteopathic pain, especially when tricycle antidepressants are contraindicated. Lyrica is the only anticoagulant which has been approved for the treatment of fibroblast. Lyrica generated revenue of $2.57 billion and $2.84 billion for Pfizer, in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

GBI Research, the leading business intelligence provider, has released its latest research, "Anticoagulants Market to 2016 - Cost Advantage and Dosage Convenience Provided by Generic Anticoagulants Will Limit Commercial Opportunities for Novel Therapies", which provides insights into global anticoagulant market and market forecast until 2016.

Report is built using data and information sourced from proprietary databases, primary and secondary research and in-house analysis by GBI Research's team of industry experts.

The report provides an in-depth analysis of the top five therapeutic indications for which often anticoagulants are prescribed which includes epilepsy, fibroblast, migraine, osteopathic pain and bipolar disorder. The report also examines the Global anticoagulant treatment usage patterns for the covered indication. In addition, the report also includes insights into the anticoagulant R&D pipeline.

Urinary Tract Infection Treatment

Urinary Tract Infection Treatment - Antibiotics vs A Natural Treatment?

Did you know that almost 10 million people visited the doctor last year for urinary tract infection treatments? Most of these people did this to relieve the painful symptoms associated with urinary tract infections which include: frequent urination; need to urinate but to no avail; frequent needs to urinate during the night; aches above pelvis; clouded urine; blood in urine; fatigue; vomiting; fever; and chills and night sweats. The symptoms of urinary tract infections can make life miserable and a U.T.I. treatment should be considered immediately!

If a urinary tract infection is left untreated, pain will become significantly worse and you could risk greater complications to your body including severe kidney problems. But what should you choose for a treatment? Antibiotics or treating the urinary tract infection naturally?

Unfortunately, of those 10 million doctor visits, most people get prescribed antibiotics to treat their urinary tract infection. Many patients will take the antibiotics and be fine while other patients will take the same antibiotics and nothing will happen except more pain. Even more unfortunate, most patients who take the antibiotics do not understand what urinary tract infection antibiotics are doing to their body.

Antibiotics Uncovered

Antibiotics have their purpose in the medical field and have done some good in some cases. However, antibiotics are being prescribed more than ever before and might be causing more harm and good. If you or a love one suffers from a urinary tract infection please pay close attention! The word 'antibiotic' literally translates as 'anti-life.' Why do you think this is?

Antibiotics (especially urinary tract infection antibiotics) are drugs used to kill bacteria (E-coli). You might think this is good but unfortunately urinary tract infection antibiotics can NOT tell the difference between 'good bacteria' and 'bad bacteria'. In a perfect world, the antibiotics would only kill the E-coli and nefarious germs that cause urinary tract infections in the bladder. However this is not the case, U.T.I. antibiotics will most of the time kill those harmful bacteria and good bacteria. And all bacteria is NOT bad!

Antibiotics Effect on Body

For instance, urinary tract infection antibiotics will also kill intestinal flora which helps digest food and immune system bacteria which aids in a healthy immunity. Over time and through more antibiotics, digestion complications will arise as well as destruction of the immune system. Also, as we become more and more dependent upon antibiotics, the harmful bacteria in our bodies become more and more tolerant of antibiotics. The result is doctors prescribing harsher antibiotics to kill the tolerant harmful bacteria (and more 'good bacteria'). Are you skeptical? A 2003 medical report stated that 42% of E. coli was resistant to one or more of the 12 antibiotics that researchers investigated.

A Better Option

You do not have to treat your urinary tract infection with antibiotics! In fact, one of the best ways to treat a urinary tract infection is by allowing your body to cure the urinary tract infection itself. By given the correct means, the body can actually cure itself in less than 12 hours naturally (no harmful antibiotics). Treating U.T.I is as simple as preventing bacteria from residing in the bladder by simply keeping your acidic levels high while flushing your body with the correct fluids.

Chest Infection Antibiotics

The public are now generally aware that antibiotics will only help with bacterial infections. Most chest infections of the upper respiratory system are caused by a virus of which there are over 150 strains.

Although antibiotics were used extensively in the past for a chest infection, they are not normally recommended as they can do more harm than good, as there is now increasing concerns with the side effects of chemical medicine. Studies have shown that antibiotics will not increase the recovery time of an illness in fact, it is known that they can have a detrimental effect on other medication which might have been prescribed, such as Warfarin the blood thinning drug or the contraceptive pill which can make the pill ineffective. Antibiotics are known to disturb the gut flora which affects the healthy populations of bacteria in the body.

The other reason that antibiotics are not now preferred is the knowledge that bacteria have the remarkable ability to mutate becoming resistant to other stronger and ever more sophisticated drugs developed to combat them.

The immune deficiency effect is the concern of modern medicine throughout the world. George Jacoby of the Harvard Medical School, quoted in Laurie Garret's book, 'The Coming Plague- Newly Emerging Diseases of the World out of Balance', Penguin Books-"Bugs are always figuring ways to get around the antibiotics we throw at them, they adapt and come roaring back again", no wonder, bacteria were around long before man inherited the earth and will always find around the antibiotic effect, and chest infections antibiotics in particular.

Chest infection antibiotics will normally only be considered if you are aged and have a temperature over 38 (100F), or any other condition such as Asthma or a long term condition of the lungs, you are a smoker with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and if your immune system is compromised as a result of Cancer treatment chemotherapy, or you have diabetes or pleurisy which is the inflammation of the lining of the lungs.

PNEUMONIA

The greatest benefit of antibiotics seemed to be for reducing the risk of pneumonia after a chest infection, particularly in the elderly. This conclusion was as a result of research by I. Peterson and colleagues of The Centre for Infectious Disease and Epidemiology, Department of Primary Care and Population Sciences, University College, London. They found that the greatest benefit of administering antibiotics for pneumonia reduced the risk after a chest infection. The size of this risk increased with the age of the patients. In the over 65 groups, 403 patients per 1000 were at risk of pneumonia, if a chest infection was untreated .This was reduced to 146 per 1000 if treated with antibiotics. Just 39 patients over 65 years would need to be treated with antibiotics to prevent one case of pneumonia compared to 119 patients between the ages of 1 and 64 year.

Their studies taken from records between 1991 and 2001 concluded that antibiotics should only be prescribed in more serious cases of chest infections.

Anti Inflammatory Herbs

Herbal Remedies for Inflammation and Pain
Inflammation is a condition when a body reacts to any infection, injury or irritation, environmental changes or malignancy. Due to inflammation swelling, pain, redness or change in color of the skin is felt. But sometimes some internal inflammation can result giving rise to fever and other discomforts.

The inflammatory response involves the activation of white blood cells that start releasing some chemicals such as cytokines and prostaglandins. Inflammation in some cases may be acute and chronic; some may often relapse depending on the severity of the disease. Inflammation is mostly treated by administering varied doses of corticosteroids that are effective in reducing and suppressing inflammation. Inflammation if not treated properly can aggravate some diseases causing much more problems, as in many cases it is difficult to predict an inflammatory response.

Few anti inflammatory herbal remedies

There are many herbal therapies that have been tried through ages and have proven record in healing inflammation by treating the cause. Latest scientific researches have given the final approval to opt for these herbal therapies than the OTC drugs.

1. Turmeric is one of the common anti inflammatory herb that is widely used in Asian recipes in good amounts. A Natural Anti-Inflammatory

Most common types of pain are caused by inflammation. Inflammation is the response from tissues that have been injured and is actually a process that helps the body heal itself. However, inflammation can cause a great deal of pain. To relieve most types of pain caused by inflammation, it is generally recommended to take an anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen. However, taking these pain killers on a regular basis can lead to stomach pain, nausea and in some cases long term kidney or liver damage. For chronic pain sufferers, it is strongly advisable to find a natural anti-inflammatory to help with pain management.

Relieving Inflammation with Ice

Ice is is both very effective to soothe inflammation and is easy to find. Most people don't even think twice about applying ice to a sprain or bruise right after the injury occurs. If you have ever wondered why people do this, it is because ice acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and helps to soothe inflammation and reduce swelling. This helps to reduce pain and to speed up the healing process. For immediate pain relief, the ice is obviously very cold and numbs the area which helps to relieve pain right away. When using ice to relieve inflammation it is advisable to apply it until the area is numb (generally 20 minutes) and then waiting to apply it again after the area is back to normal temperature.

Natural Anti-Inflammatory Herbs

There are a number of herbs that can be taken as a herbal supplement to fight against inflammation and relieve pain. When taking these herbs as a supplement it is recommended to take them on a daily basis. The effects may not be noticed for up to 1-2 months.

Super Anti-Inflammatory Foods

Your joints is an engineering masterpiece designed to perfection, so much that us humans are constantly trying to copy the this intricate design. Our body has various signals to indicate the condition of our joints. When there is swelling it sends out signals which we feel as pain. Sometime things get a little serious like chronic inflammation which leads to serious conditions sometime it can go to the extent of being life threatening like cancer and heart disease.

Various factors are identified as contributing factors to inflammation. Researchers associate the degree of inflammation to factors like the amount of stress you go through, your lifestyle, the activity - rest cycle and most importantly the quality and quantity of food you put into our body. When all the above mentioned factors are present in various proportions, the cumulative effect will lead to greater chances of the disease.

As we age our body doesn't function as efficiently as it used to and we are more prone to injuries and most importantly the ability of the body to heal is also affected. Even the most strongest of us can be affected because this reduced efficiency of the body. Our body is naturally equipped to combat inflammation to certain levels beyond which the conditions goes on deteriorating. Initially body will send out the pain signal and when ignored constantly it goes to severe inflammation mode and with this imbalance other problems creep up as well.

There are things which are beyond our control but good news is that the major contributing factor is within our control, which is our diet. One of the most effective ways is to pursue natural ways to fight inflammation as opposed to other treatment options like drugs, steroids and in extreme case surgery.

Signs of Alcoholism

Five Warning Signs of Alcoholism

Most of us now understand that alcoholism is a disease, and no one intentionally tries to catch a disease. But the cause of alcoholism is quite readably discernable - drinking alcohol. Yet most adults drink, at least occasionally, despite this knowledge.

Why take the risk? Of course there are pleasurable feelings associated with alcohol consumption. It loosens the inhibitions and makes it easier for some to meet and talk to new people. The fact that it's such a large precursor to such an insidious disease, well, most people are sure they don't drink THAT much. Little do they know that they may be on the way to a bad case of alcoholism right now. One person's social drinking is another's first stage of alcoholism. Not only is it hard to tell who alcoholism will hit and who it won't, but those who are being affected will do everything in their power to deny it to others, and often to themselves. This makes it even harder to diagnose.

But there are warning signs. If you're worried about early states of alcoholism yourself, think about these things:

1. If you're starting to be concerned about the level of your drinking, you probably should be. Even if you're not dwelling on these types of thoughts, but they just occur to you from time to time, it's an indication you may have an abuse problem.

2. People who know and care about you are starting to mention their concerns over your drinking. Perhaps they don't even mention it, but you start to notice them steering you away from drinking-related activities. A sure sign of impending or current alcoholism is having had multiple run-ins with the law for alcohol-related offenses.

3. If you're drinking socially, you may lose some inhibitions, but your personally doesn't change. When you're suffering from alcoholism, drinking brings about very specific mood changes. These can vary from person to person, but could take the form of silliness, happiness, depression, irritability, or even something more aggressive and dangerous.

4. Your behavior changes when drinking to the point where you do things you would never consider doing when sober.

5. You move from an occasional, social drinker, to a regular or repetitive one. If you're drinking an amount exceeding legal limits every time you drink, and that is starting to happen more and more often, you definitely need to take a closer look at your relationship with alcohol.

From this list, alcoholism is not as far away as you thought. Plenty of people meet more than one of these five criteria, yet don't deem themselves alcoholics. But remember, the alcoholic will deny it as long as possible. He/she may need a drink every day, meet all the criteria above, and still swear up and down that he could stop any time, but he can't, and everyone around him knows it.

If you look at the above list and see yourself described, don't run away. Here's what you need to do:

1. Alcoholism is a disease of addiction, and the best single thing you can do to start on the road to recovery is join Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The addict in you will balk, but go to a meeting. Take charge. Take your life back.

2. Go to an exploratory meeting with an addictions counselor. They will help explore the path that led your to alcoholism and make you clearly see where your addiction will eventually lead you.

3. Just stop drinking. Although, fair warning, this is difficult and doesn't work for most people. You probably need the help of counseling or AA to rid yourself of your addiction. But maybe you're not far enough along, or maybe you ARE someone with the will power to pull it off.

4. Slow your drinking. Again, this probably won't work; it doesn't in most cases. However, if you're just starting to worry about alcoholism, it's possible you can still turn from the beginning problem stages back to the moderate social drinking you used to do.

5. If none of these work for you, check yourself into a more intense "drying out" or in-house addiction treatment.

Alcoholism is a progressive disease, and if you have the early warning signals and don't do anything, your health, your family, your career; indeed your entire life will be adversely affected. Take action while you can!

Lewy Body Disease

According the the experts, Lewy Body Disease is the number two cause of dementia symptoms after Alzheimer's Disease. Yet few people have heard of Lewy Body Disease, and even doctors still seem to forget about it when testing patients for dementia. Patients with LBD often leave their doctor's office with a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease or Alzheimer's Disease. While none of these diseases are curable at this time, there are big differences in how they are medically treated.

Medications for Parkinson's Disease can cause serious deterioration in the cognitive functioning of someone who actually has Lewy Body. Those being treated with some of the psychiatric medications used to treat Alzheimer's symptoms can develop serious Parkinson's-type symptoms if they in fact have Lewy Body Disease rather than Alzheimer's.

Symptoms of Lewy Body Disease

Most people with LBD first visit their physicians because they are experiencing symptoms that most often look like Parkinson's Disease.

Experienced doctors who know to carefully evaluate symptoms will initially look for a steady loss of short term memory, sleep problems and unusual personality and mood swings. In addition to these rather general symptoms, which are also common to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases, doctors will ask about hallucinations, frequent falls, a shuffling gait, a tendency to lean to one side when sitting or walking, difficulty finding the right word, and problems with completing tasks once started. Urinary and constipation problems, an impaired sense of direction, poor depth perception, new problems with regulating blood pressure and temperature (feeling too hot or too cold), and increased difficulty swallowing are also experienced by some Lewy Body patients.

Increasingly poor judgment, delusions and bizarre mood swings, and for many a tendency to lash out physically often accompany LBD. Lewy Body Disease most commonly appears between the ages of 50 and 85. While it is slightly more common in men than in woman, it can strike either. While the physical symptoms can be debilitating for the patient, the biggest challenge for caregivers is usually coping with the mental changes that accompany the disease.

Treatment of Lewy Body Disease

There is no cure for LBD. Treatment can be difficult because many patients have a lower tolerance for the kinds of medications that are given to help with the movement and cognitive problems associated with LBD. Because LBD patients can be so sensitive to medications routinely prescribed for Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease, which may make their symptoms worse rather than better, it is critically important that they be under the care of an experienced neurologist or neuropsychiatrist.

It is often a continuing process of making tiny changes to medications before an appropriate treatment program is identified. As the disease progresses, the doctor will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the program and to make adjustments.

Because the goal of treatment with Lewy Body Disease is to make the patient as comfortable and content as possible and at the same time to support the needs of caregivers, continuing care from a specialist who understands LBD is vital. Early diagnosis and treatment will increase a caregiver's options and enable someone with Lewy Body Disease to possibly stay comfortably at home longer.
