Gastrointestinal Tract

Herbs Too Cleanse The Gastrointestinal Tract
A good combination to cleanse the gastrointestinal tract is a mixture of chilies and ginger root. Blend or crush both in lemon juice and olive oil and refrigerate, then use this as a salad dressing or for flavoring meals. Use an amount that is hot but not uncomfortable. Gradually increase your intake to just below your tolerance level for several weeks; then you can continue to use it in normal amounts for flavoring your food. With serious infections, inflammations, or cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, you can also add fresh garlic to this until the problem is overcome.

Peppermint tea is especially good to stimulate the digestion and uplift the spirit, while slippery elm powder soothes the digestive tract. Sage is highly esteemed. An ancient saying goes: "Why die when sage grows in your garden?" It can be prepared by adding two teaspoons of dried sage to one pint of boiling water; after three minutes, remove it from the heat and let it draw for another ten minutes.

To aid digestion, it is generally beneficial to drink half a cup of bitter herb tea after a large or cooked meal. Suitable herbs here are centaury, dandelion, devil's claw, and gentian: these also help to restore liver function.

Eye Care for Computer Users

Eyestrain, headaches, dry or irritated eyes and temporarily blurred vision are a problem for many people who use computers (visual display units, or VDUs) regularly.

Whether you use a computer at work, home or both, a routine eye test every two years is essential to ensure you're not subjecting yourself to unnecessary eyestrain. Headaches, dry or irritated eyes and temporarily blurred vision are a problem for some people who use computers regularly. Your eyes are in good hands at D&A The Opticians: we pride ourselves on providing you with the best eyecare on the high street and our thorough eye tests take just 25 minutes of your time.

Advice for computer users
  • Take regular breaks to give your eyes a rest. Look beyond your computer every 20 minutes, or walk away from the screen.
  • Keep blinking to prevent dry eyes.
  • Check that your monitor is 33cm-59cm from your eyes and that the centre of your screen is 10cm-15cm below your natural eye level.
  • Ideally, position your screen so that windows and lights are to the side of it.
  • If your computer is an old model, fit an anti-glare filter. Better still, replace it with a new monitor to benefit from minimal distortion, glare and reflection.
  • Keep your screen clean.
If you need new glasses, ask for lenses with an anti-reflection coating on them to reduce visual strain. At D&A we recommend Nikon lenses. We also offer a new range of office lenses specifically for computer users.

ED Drugs

Erectile Dysfunction Drugs Do They Really Work?
Erectile dysfunction (ED) which is more known as impotence is the inability of man to have an erection or a prolonged erection before or during sexual intercourse. Erectile dysfunction is said to be a medical condition suffered by men. This medical condition usually affects older men, but it can affect men of any age. To treat erectile dysfunction, there are numerous erectile dysfunction drugs available in the market but not all those who suffer from it take medications.

More recently, conversations on the topic of erectile dysfunction is considered to be a sensitive topic and more of a taboo. Men who suffer from Erectile dysfunction (ED) normally feel ashamed to talk about erectile dysfunction even to their doctors. But in the recent years, people are more open and erectile dysfunction is not seen as something that is shameful. In fact, many men, of different ages suffer from erectile dysfunction. Because of this, the invention of drugs which help men from suffering erectile dysfunction came out in the market.

Erectile dysfunction drugs are in sale in some clinics and in the pharmacy stores. Online, there are also erectile dysfunction drugs that claim to help solve the issue of impotence. The most popular erectile dysfunction drugs in the American market are V i agra, L e vitra and C i alis. Those looking for erectile dysfunction drugs usually try V i agra first since it is known to be effective. C i alis, on the other hand, is also most sought by those looking for effective erectile dysfunction drugs because it stays longer in the body (24 to 36 hours) compared to the other two.

In searching for erectile dysfunction drugs, don't forget about their side effects. Erectile dysfunction drugs can produce side effects such as headaches, heartburn and flushing, depending on the state of health of the person who takes it. Lastly, they all work by relaxing smooth muscle cells, thus widening blood vessels. With widened blood vessels, the flow of blood is not restricted thus, producing an erection.

Buying erectile dysfunction drugs from any source, it is important to consult firstly with your medic. The person's state of health should be analyzed if capable of taking the drugs. Taking any of those drugs without any professional advice may lead to adverse effects. As with any medical condition, professional check up is necessary, especially before taking any drugs or medication.

If one wants to be sure that he is receiving the best possible erectile dysfunction drugs he should be sure to order from pharmacy websites that are trusted and reliable. The website should have an online support or live help. This websites are safe to buy V ia gra from because they honor the right to privacy, follow a quality assurance policy and will actually let you talk directly with a licensed pharmacist.

What is an erection
The penis contains two chambers called the corpora cavernosa, which run the length of the organ (see figure 1). A spongy tissue fills the chambers. The corpora cavernosa are surrounded by a membrane, called the tunica albuginea. The spongy tissue contains smooth muscles, fibrous tissues, spaces, veins, and arteries. The urethra, which is the channel for urine and ejaculate, runs along the underside of the corpora cavernous and is surrounded by the corpus spongiosum.

Figure 1. Arteries (top) and veins (bottom) penetrate the long, filled cavities running the length of the penis—the corpora cavernosa and the corpus spongiosum. Erection occurs when relaxed muscles allow the corpora cavernosa to fill with excess blood fed by the arteries, while drainage of blood through the veins is blocked. An erection occurs when blood is pumped into the penis and stays there, making it hard. It generally happens because a guy is thinking about sex, or because his penis is being stimulated - or both. The result is that signals go down the nerves that lead from his spinal cord to his genitals. They tell the blood vessels which supply the penis to open up. Blood flows in and the organ ‘blows up' like a balloon. A valve mechanism near the base of the penis keeps the blood from flowing out again – a least, until sex is over. As you can see, getting an erection is a complex process. It's awfully easy for various factors to interfere with it - for instance, worry, tiredness, too much alcohol or in later life, narrowing of the blood vessels. Nicotine is now known to narrow those vital blood vessels – which is why ED is much commoner in smokers. But often, there is nothing physically wrong with men who develop. Psychological impotence is where erection or penetration fails due to thoughts or feelings (psychological reasons) rather than physical impossibility; this is somewhat less frequent but often can be helped. Notably in psychological impotence, there is a strong response to placebo treatment. Erectile dysfunction, tied closely as it is about ideas of physical well being, can have severe psychological consequences.
What physical causes are there
Common physical causes include:
Diabetes
Smoking
Excessive drinking (hence the phrase ‘Brewer's droop')
Being obese and out-of-condition
Side-effects of certain drugs, notably ones for blood pressure and depression
Effects of recreational drugs.
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
Stress, anxiety or depression
Fatigue
Brain or spinal-cord injuries
Hypogonadism (which leads to lower testosterone levels)
Multiple sclerosis
Parkinson's disease
Radiation therapy to the testicles
Feelings that can lead to erectile dysfunction
Feeling nervous about sex, perhaps because of a bad experience or because of a previous episode of impotence
Feeling stressed, including stress from work or family situations
Being troubled by problems in your relationship with your sex partner
Feeling depressed
Feeling so self-conscious that you can't enjoy sex
Thinking that your partner is reacting negatively to you
How is erectile dysfunction diagnosed
Your doctor will probably start by asking you some questions and doing a physical exam. Samples of your blood and urine may be tested for diseases and disorders. Other tests may also be needed. Your doctor will determine which tests are right for you.
How is erectile dysfunction treated
Treatment depends on the cause of the ED. For instance, psychological causes may require:
commonsense advice to one or both partners
relationship counselling
counselling
psychotherapy
Erection-aiding drugs
Oral drugs which help produce an erection in response to sexual stimulation have revolutionised the treatment of ED over the last eight years. They don't work for everybody, but they do work for the majority – even in diabetes. They can also help people with neurological and spinal problems. Also, the choice of available drugs means that if one particular drug doesn't suit you, it's well worth trying one of the others. There are now only three orally-administered drugs available in the US. They all have side effects, only a few of which we can list here. For more information, read the package insert leaflet, and if in doubt ask your doctor. The oral drugs currently available are:

Other Drug Treatments for ED
It's also possible to give erection-inducing agents by:
pellets inserted down the urinary pipe
injections into the penis
These methods have become less popular since the increasing availability of oral drugs, but they suit a minority of men. You have to be quite brave to give yourself a jab in the penis. For details of side effects, consult your GP.

Natural Diuretic Foods

Similar to dehydration, water retention can be equally harmful. People suffering from heart ailments, kidney and liver related problems, high blood pressure, edema, sciatica, and others are more likely to complain of retention of water. However, this mild bloating and water retention is highly common in women. One can relate this problem to hormonal fluctuations leading to breast fullness, bloating, and mild ankle swelling, especially premenstrually. Though doctors prescribe diuretic medications to overcome water retention problems, most of them are too strong to treat premenstrual swelling, further causing reduction of potassium levels.

As such, it is best to look out for natural diuretic foods that relieve PMS and help in treating water retention as well. Being natural, you can count on their benefits without getting bothered of any side effects. Below is a list of natural diuretic foods that can be easily incorporated in your regular diet. Take a look! List Of Natural Diuretics Asparagus Improve the functioning of your kidneys by consuming generous amounts of asparagus. It contains the chemical alkaloid called asparagine that helps in removing wastes from the body effectively. Parsley An herb with mild diuretic properties, parsley aids in stimulating urine, thereby flushing out toxins from the kidneys. Add fresh parsley to your recipes for additional benefits. For most effective and diuretic benefits, use parsley to prepare tea. Ginger Apart from adding flavor to food, ginger helps in relieving the nausea caused premenstrually and acts as a helpful diuretic. To extract the benefits of ginger, consume it as a tea during meals and eliminate excess fluids from your body.

Celery Seed Derived from the flowers of the celery plant, celery seeds are highly effective in stimulating urine production and reducing fluid retention. The seeds are available in tablets and can be purchased from any medical store. Alternatively, prepare a hot tea from the celery seeds and enjoy sipping in between meals. Cranberry Juice Cranberry juice is known for maintaining the pH level of urine and helps in diluting the same. Also, it assists in increasing the frequency of urination. As a result, cranberry juice aids in improving and maintaining the functioning of the kidneys. Dandelion Leaf With natural diuretic properties, dandelion has proved to increase urine production and lessen fluid retention. It is also a good source of potassium mineral that is generally lost with frequent use of prescribed medications. Melon Melons, such as watermelon and muskmelon, are a good source of water, potassium, and sodium.

Thus, they assist in the process of eliminating toxins from the body and increasing the production of more urine. Other Foods To get rid of water retention, other natural diuretic foods include raw fruits and vegetables (cucumber, lettuce, onion, horseradish, radish, tomatoes, carrots, artichokes, oranges, celery, Brussels sprouts, and beets), herbs (juniper berries, goldenrod, golden seal, nettle, and fennel), and foods such as garlic, oats, watercress, coffee, tea, Gingko Biloba, and Buchu extract. With this list, you have a significant number of natural diuretic foods to include in your diet. Give them a try and see their significant effects over the next few days.

Herbal Diuretics

Herbal diuretics are herbs that help deal with conditions and/or diseases like edema, fluid retention, kidney disease, urinary tract infection, and more. They do so by helping drain the excess liquid that is retained in the body’s tissues instead of being drained out normally or via the body’s regular excretory functions. They are excellent alternatives to or substitutes for the usual over the counter or doctor prescribed medicines because they increase urination without depleting body electrolytes, which many prescription or over the counter drugs can bring about when they drain excess fluid from the body. As a matter of fact, certain of these diuretics can even be combined with prescription medicines for those who require more intensive diuresis.

However, just like prescription medicines, these herbs have to be used only with the supervision of a qualified practitioner. Some of these herbs may have certain side effects, especially if taken in excess, such as nausea or diarrhea. Some can even result in an overall reduction in the volume of blood or even dehydration if too much is taken, and this can obviously be very dangerous. So health professionals should always be consulted before one resorts to taking these treatments.

Some popular herbal diuretics are dandelion, chicory, nettle, mint, golden seal, marshmallow, fennel, hops, spearmint, saw palmetto, skullcap, yarrow and wintergreen. These herbs listed also rank among the safest to use to help with draining excess fluid from the body. Dandelion root, for instance, is one of the most popular of these herbs for diuresis because it is famed for being easy on bodily systems, can be taken on a daily basis, and will not result in depletion of the body’s potassium reserves like many over the counter drugs.

To relieve your edema or other conditions, if you can find prepared capsules or diuretic herbal mixtures in your local stores, you can try taking these. Otherwise, you can make raw herbs – leaves or roots – into tea, eat them raw, or include them in meals or salads. For tea preparations, you will need to combine just a teaspoon of your herb of choice with a cup of boiling water, steep for around 15 minutes, and then strain before serving (if desired, you may serve it with a natural sweetener such as honey). Again, you should ask a health professional just to be certain that you are doing the right thing. Many professionals recommend no more than four cups or three capsules of these preparations, but exceptions may apply depending on specific cases.

In addition, it is also important to back your herbal diuretics and treatments up by making sure to drink at least eight glasses a day of pure water. It might seem like a contradiction, but if the body does not get enough water it will retain whatever water it has, resulting in edema in many cases. So in addition to taking these treatments, one should take in enough water for one’s needs and health to prevent water retention.

Diabetic Diet Plan

The Need for a Diabetic Diet Plan
A diabetes menu planner is very important for people with Type 2 diabetes. That is because Mediterranean Food Pyramid the foods they eat to be as healthy as possible. The food you eat has a direct impact on your blood glucose, body fat, and overall health. That is why it is so important for diabetics to create a realistic diabetes diet plan. Insulin-resistant people have special Diabetes Diet and Food.

As a Type 2 diabetic, you need to be careful about the excess fat on your body. But, more importantly you need to be careful about the amount of sugar (from sugar added in processed foods, and from starches like white rice or white potato or white bread) that you eat with each meal.

For example, simple starches like white rice may spike blood sugar levels very high, very quickly for a diabetic and non-diabetic. The speed of the rise of sugar in the blood is predicted by the glycemic index rating. So, for a diabetic, eating simple starches like white rice may require careful planning.

People with diabetes must really understand the value of using the glycemic index and glycemic load concepts as important tools for eating healthy. If you must eat white rice or white potato or white white bread, plan to have protein/meat and vegetables (complex carbs), with a small amount of rice on the plate. Therefore, diabetics should always make good choices of the foods that they eat. Good choices in carbs include what you eat (on the glycemic index list) and how much you eat (as measured by glycemic load).

Diabetes Menu Planner
One of the best ways for diabetics to control the quality of their meals is to plan their diabetes menus. Diabetes menu planning means that you create a menu for the day, week, or even month that you stick to. Diabetes Menu Planning Goals
The goal of every diabetes menu plan should be to ensure that you have a balanced diet with an appropriate amount of:
  • Carbohydrates (45%-65%) - Use more low Glycemic Index carbs than high
  • Proteins (10%-35%) - Keep it lean
  • Unsaturated fats (20%-35%) - Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated
Diabetes menu planning is an also an excellent way to keep track of calories.
The average person should consume about 2,000 calories per day to ensure that their body functions properly and they have enough energy to be active. It is also recommended that the average person consumers about:
  • 100 grams of protein (at 4Cal/gram)
  • 275 grams of carbohydrates (at 4 Cal/gram)
  • 56 grams of fat (at 9 Cal/gram) each day (yes - it is actually important to consume fat - that is monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats from plants and fish). Eat as little saturated fats as possible. Saturated fats mostly come from non-fish animals, like birds, cows and pigs.

Cinnamon and Diabetes

A few small clinical trials indicate that cinnamon may help to prevent the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. Supporters of this research claim that just a teaspoon of the popular spice is all that is needed to help fat cells respond to the body's naturally-produced insulin in order to lower blood sugar levels.

Lab studies indicate that cinnamon contains a biologically active chemical called methylhydroxy-chalcone polymer (MHCP). MHCP works by mimicking the effects of insulin syringes in stimulating the insulin receptors in fat and muscle cells to receive sugar (glucose). How MHCP act on the insulin receptors is unknown.

Additionally, supporters claim that cinnamon is proven to lower bad cholesterol. As such, the spice appears to be an effective and holistic solution to weight loss, Diabetes care, and improved general health.

Lower High Cholesterol with Herbs and Supplements

Lower High Cholesterol With Herbs and Supplements

What is High Cholesterol?
In some people, cholesterol levels in blood become too high. This is called high cholesterol or hyperlipidemia.

High levels of LDL cholesterol (so-called "bad" cholesterol) are considered a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

LDL cholesterol is thought to irritate the lining of blood vessels, stimulating atherosclerosis, commonly known as hardening of the arteries.

Although lowering LDL cholesterol and raising levels of HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol) has traditionally been the focus, factors related to free radical damage are drawing increased attention:
  • Lipoprotein A is a relative of LDL cholesterol. It's thought to be formed when there is free radical damage. Lipoprotein A may adhere to damaged blood vessels, eventually forming atherosclerotic plaques.
  • Oxidized cholesterol is found in large amounts in fried and processed foods. Studies have found that oxidized cholesterol may increase the amount of atherosclerotic deposits on blood vessel walls.
Who Needs to Lower Cholesterol?
High cholesterol is usually treated based on total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and HDL cholesterol levels, plus the presence of additional risk factors for heart disease:
  • Previous heart attack
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • High blood pressure
  • Low HDL cholesterol
  • Family history of early heart disease
  • Age over 45 in men and greater than 55 in women
  • 10 year risk of heart attack greater than 20%
  • Herbs and Supplements for High Cholesterol
A few tips on using natural products to lower cholesterol:

Talk with your doctor before starting any natural method to lower cholesterol.

Make your doctor knows what supplements you are taking. Fill out the supplement diary to bring to your next appointment.

Don't discontinue any medication to lower cholesterol. Speak with your doctor if you have questions about your medication.

· Vitamin B3 (Niacin)
Vitamin B3, also called niacin, is used to lower cholesterol. Specifically, it appears to lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol.

Well-designed studies have found that niacin lowers LDL cholesterol by approximately 10%, lowers triglycerides by 25%, and raises "good" HDL cholesterol by 15% to 30%. Niacin also appears to significantly lower levels for another risk factor for atherosclerosis, lipoprotein A.
Niacin is available in prescription form and as a dietary supplement. The American Heart Association cautions patients to only use the prescription form of niacin.

Because of side effects, niacin should not be used to lower cholesterol unless under the supervision of a qualified health practitioner.

Niacin can increase the effect of high blood pressure medication or cause nausea, indigestion, gas, diarrhea, gout, and worsen peptic ulcers, or trigger gout, liver inflammation, and high blood sugar.

The most common side effect of high-dose niacin is skin flushing or hot flashes, which is caused by widening of blood vessels. Most people only notice this when they initially start taking niacin. The flushing may be lessened by taking niacin with meals.

Although high doses of niacin showed promise in combination with drugs to lower cholesterol (called "statins"), there are concerns that combining them could result in a potentially fatal condition called rhabdomyolysis. They shouldn't be combined unless under the close supervision of a physician.

· Artichoke Leaf
There is some research suggesting that artichoke leaf extract (Cynara scolymnus) may help to lower cholesterol.

Artichoke leaf extract may work by limiting the synthesis of cholesterol in the body.
Artichokes also contain a compound called cynarin, believed to increase bile production in the liver and speed the flow of bile from the gallbladder, both of which may increase cholesterol excretion.

A double-blind, placebo-controlled German study found that 1,800 mg of artichoke extract per day for six weeks significantly lowered total cholesterol by 18.5% compared to 8.6% in the placebo group and lowered LDL cholesterol by 22.9% compared with 6% in the placebo group. The ratio of LDL to HDL decreased by 20% in the artichoke group compared with 7% in the placebo group. There were no adverse effects associated with artichoke use.

A meta-analysis looked at randomized controlled trials for artichoke extract for high cholesterol. Two trials involving a total of 167 people met the quality criteria. One trial found artichoke significantly reduced total cholesterol after 42 days of treatment. The other study found artichoke significantly reduced total cholesterol in a subgroup of patients with total cholesterol levels of more than 230 mg/dl.

Adverse events were mild, transient and infrequent. Larger clinical trials over longer periods are needed. Read more about artichoke

· Soluble Fiber
Soluble fiber appears to reduce LDL cholesterol by reducing cholesterol absorption in the intestines. Soluble fiber binds with cholesterol so that it is excreted.

Soluble fiber can be found as a dietary supplement, such as psyllium powder, or in foods such as:
  • Oats, barley, rye
  • Legumes (peas, beans)
  • Some fruits such as apples, prunes, and berries
  • Some vegetables, such as carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, yams
Five to 10 grams a day of soluble fiber has been found to decrease LDL cholesterol by approximately 5%.

The FDA allows soluble fiber products to indicate on the label that they are "heart-healthy".

· Plant Sterols and Stanols

Plant stanols and sterols (such as beta-sitosterol and sitostanol) are naturally-occuring substances found in certain plants. Stanols are also found as dietary supplements or are added to margarine, orange juice, and dressings.

Research suggests that plant stanols and sterols may help to lower cholesterol. They are similar in structure to cholesterol and may help block the absorption of cholesterol from the intestines.
Studies have found that stanols significantly reduced total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, but had no significant effect on HDL cholesterol or triglycerides.

Stanols and sterols appear to enhance the effects of other methods to lower cholesterol. In studies, people taking the statin drugs to lower cholesterol had an additional improvement in their cholesterol levels with stanols/sterols.

· Other Supplements
Policosanol
Red Yeast Rice
Coenzyme Q10
Garlic
Pantothine

Heart Disease in Women

Heart disease is the number one killer of women, yet heart disease in women in is harder to detect than heart disease in men. Also unfortunate is the fact that heart disease in women is harder to treat than heart disease in men. Each year heart disease heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined.

Part of reason that heart disease in women is so hard to detect is because the symptoms are likely to be ignored because they may seem like symptoms of other less dangerous problems. For example, a woman who is feeling dizziness or breathlessness in her everyday activities may assume that she is simply out of shape or not getting enough sleep. A woman with upper abdominal pain may think she has indigestion.

Heart disease in women can be missed by doctors even when the woman feels that something is wrong. A study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that heart disease in women is much harder to detect. One third of the women in the study who had heart problems did not show any signs of heart disease through an X-ray.

When a woman has a heart attack, she is more likely to die from it than a man. Each year cardiovascular disease kills 75,000 more women than men. A higher percentage of women will die within the first year after having a heart attack than will men. Not enough studies have taken place so far for scientists and doctors to know all they need to know about the difference in disease in men and women. What is known so far is that women are more likely to have microvascular disease than are men.

Microvascular disease is a uniform build up of plaque along the walls of the arteries. The problem with microvascular disease is that there is no mass that will appear on X-rays and because of that it too often goes undetected. It seems that women may also have plaque buildup on tiny coronary arteries that are too small to show up on an angiogram. It is imperative for women with the symptoms of heart disease to insist on finding a reason for their symptoms.

Cardiovascular Diseases

The cardiovascular diseases are those diseases which are caused by disorders of heart and blood vessels. Coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, hypertension, artery disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease and failure of heart came under the category of cardiovascular diseases. Most of the western countries face the high and increasing rate of cardiovascular diseases. More people are killed by this disease every year as compare to cancer. A survey concludes that diseases of the heart alone caused 30% of all deaths, with other diseases of the cardiovascular system causing substantial further death and disability. Every 2 out of 3 cardiac deaths occur without any diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.

After a survey it was conclude that this is the prime cause of death and disability in the United States and most European countries. A large histological study (PDAY) showed vascular injury accumulates from adolescence and makes primary prevention efforts necessary from childhood. An estimated concludes that17.5 million people died from cardiovascular disease in 2005 and this is about the 30 % of all global deaths. 7.6 million out of these were died due to heart attacks and 5.7 million were due to stroke.

Around 80% of these deaths occurred in developing or under developed countries as they have low and middle income. If not step is taken against it then according to an estimate, by 2015, 20 million people will die from cardiovascular disease every year and most of them will be from heart attacks and strokes.

Causes- The cause of cardiovascular disease is a blockage that prevents blood to go to the heart or to the brain. The most important and main cause of cardiovascular disease is build up of fatty deposits in the inner wall of blood vessels. In this particular condition, blood vessels become narrower and less broad and heart doesn't receive the blood. In that case it results to failure of heart.

Reasons- The major reasons of having cardiovascular disease are tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity. An early form of fatty deposits, which is known as fatty streaks can also be found in children. Some children may be younger than 10 years. These deposits get slowly worse as the person gets older.

Helpful tips- If you are obese or overweight then it increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. To maintain an ideal body weight, you should take regular physical activity and eat a healthy diet.

Weight Gain

Weight Gain and Birth Control Pills
The vast variety of birth control pills presented to women provides them a wide range to choose from. There are birth control pills that work best for others but will not work for you or are not appropriate for you. Fortunately, because of the wide variety of birth control pills to choose from, it will be easy to do a trial run and see what type works for you best.

However, recent surveys have purported that almost 50% of all women using birth control pills have noticed that they are experiencing a weight gain and it is one of the untoward effects that they do not desire. The result further showed that about 20% of these women make the untoward effect of birth control weight gain as their primary reason for not using oral contraceptives at all.

Most women are weight conscious therefore it is important for them that their control pills will not impede their weight loss or weight maintenance programs. However, there are no further studies that will support such allegation of weight gain after the utilization of control pills. Researches have no evidence pointing the weight gain to the use of oral contraceptives. There are many theories but none has been proven to be the real answer.

From these women who reported to have weight gain, how much did they gain? Most women reported that after usage of oral contraceptives, they gained about five pounds but a small fraction has gained about 10 pounds. Basically, any weight changes whether weight gain or weight loss within three months of oral contraceptive use is related to the side effect of the pill that you have used.

What should you do?

  • Ask your doctor about it especially if you are concerned about the possibility that your birth control pill is causing you to gain weight.
  • You can ask for a switch of prescription birth control pill
  • Avoid oral contraceptives that have elevated doses of estrogen - a hormone that will probably cause gain in weight.
How can you prevent undesirable weight gain?
  • After prescription of oral contraceptives, you have to be more vigilant in maintaining a correct diet and work outs for your body
  • When you experience a slight change in your weight or even in your appetite and habits, you can simply switch to another type of birth control of course with the advice of physicians.
  • You can ask your physician about the weight gain after having tried different types of oral contraceptive but still having the same problem.
  • Determine if you have any underlying health problem that contributes to this untoward effect

Oral Birth Control Pills

Oral Birth Control Pills

Today there is a need to limit the family size at a personal level and to control the nation's population. In the prevailing competitive world with the increased cost of living, scarcity of accommodation, desire for better education and improved living standard, increased contraceptive measures have paved a way in people's life.

Birth control tablets are one of the preventive measures for pregnancy. These tablets prevent the release of eggs required for fertilization in a woman's womb. They are freely available in the market and can be obtained without any prescription from the medical practitioners. Most of the woman today use these contraceptive tablets as they are considered to be much safer and more effective.

Birth controls tablets are a combination of estrogen hormone and progesterone hormone. There are several different types of contraceptives in market but among these, birth control pills are commonly used as they are considered to be much safer than the other contraceptive products and they have low failure rate when compared to other contraceptive methods. Earlier birth control tablets with a combination of estrogen hormone and progesterone hormone were used, which had more side effects. Later on, birth control pills containing only progesterone were introduced which have lesser side effects. For the birth-control tablets to work effectively, the individual has to ensure that she does not miss any dose or instructions mentioned on the package.

Woman on these tablets experience side effects such as vomiting sensation, blood spotting, tender breasts, unpredictable moods, gain extra body weight, libido becomes low and develop slight changes in vaginal discharge. Emergency contraceptive pills are prescribed by medical practitioners in case other contraceptive methods failed. There have been few instances of user developing serious side-effects like hypertension, heart attack, jaundice, gall bladder stones, increase blood clot mechanism which affect blood vessels of lungs and brain.

These tablets should not be used by women with a history of diabetes, cardiac-disease, hypertension, smoking over 35 years, chronic-liver disease, breast cancer, thyroid, gross obesity and severe migraine.

To steer clear of critical side-effects one has to properly consult a medical practitioner before opting to use the birth control tablets. Some of the commonly used oral contraceptive tablets are Saheli and Mala-D Tablets.

Apart from controlling birth or say avoiding pregnancy, these tablets are used for regularizing menstrual disorders, pelvic-inflammatory diseases and osteoporosis and other uterus related diseases.

HIV Cure

Is there a cure on the horizon? The HIV epidemic is now entering into its fourth decade and as of yet there is still no cure. Millions of dollars have been spent on research and study but professionals have failed as of yet to discover a permanent solution to this worldwide concern. Despite all efforts, the numbers of people being infected with this condition is still on the rise. At present, it is estimated that almost 40 million people all around the globe have the HIV virus. Faced with the dilemma of more and more people infected with the disease researchers and doctors are approaching the HIV cure strategy from two sides.

One side is directing their efforts towards helping those who have the disease and developing treatments that will prolong their life. The other area of investigation remains dedicated to the goal of eradicating the disease completely.

Those doctors working with patients already suffering from the disease are targeting a number of very specific areas, which include:
  • Methods to prevent the transmission of the virus

  • To impede the progress of the disease once it is in the body

  • Improve the life quality of the affected person
In many cases, these treatments have been very effective, but they are obviously not a permanent solution. Patients who are treated using the HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Treatment) program of drugs are often required to remain on the medication for the duration of their lives.

The HAART method of treatment is very expensive and requires that a person be monitored by a physician to ensure that the drugs are able to suppress the virus. The HIV virus is highly resistant and if not monitored can become immune and block the effects of the drugs.

The other major problem with this approach to the HIV epidemic is that this treatment is not economically viable for many people in the third world. Patients suffering from HIV do not have the funds or the access to the required medications. Africa, an area that is among the hardest hit by the HIV epidemic, has neither the doctors, nor the funds to combat the HIV problem using this solution.

New research brings new hope

The second side of the attack is still focused on discovering a method of treatment that will completely eradicate the virus. Towards this goal, they are continuing to research new techniques and drugs that they hope will achieve the desired result. Researchers are learning that the HIV virus presents a number of qualities that make it an extremely challenging dilemma.

Why is this disease so difficult to cure?

The HIV virus presents a difficult target for doctors, because it can remain dormant for years. In simple terms, this means that the virus enters a person's cells and hides. Doctors cannot attack and treat a virus if they are unable to determine its exact location.

One of the ideas that doctors are currently exploring is the possibility of finding ways to force the virus to come out of hiding. The theory behind this HIV cure strategy is simple; force the virus out into the open where drugs can be effective. However, this strategy is not without its own dangers and risks. Once awake, doctors have to be certain that they will be able to eradicate the virus before it is able to do serious harm to the patient. Doctors are also concerned about the effects on the patient from the drugs that will be used to awaken the virus. Many of these drugs have very serious and harmful side effects.

Research has also shown that early treatment of the disease may give the doctors a chance to eliminate the virus before it can "hide". Fifteen percent of patients who received the HAART treatment within the first couple of weeks of infection were able to enter into a drug free remission. In other words, the patients were able to discontinue all treatments and showed no further signs of the HIV virus. This early treatment is a very positive sign and is encouraging doctors to investigate into how they can recognize the disease and offer treatment to infected people faster.

There may not be a cure yet, but research and new developments are bringing us ever closer to the time when HIV will be finally eradicated.

HIV Rash

HIV Rash - Symptoms, Description and Information
An HIV rash is something that a person who has contracted HIV may see on their skin. At times it can even be caused by the medicines that a person is on to help keep the virus under control. It is thought that over eighty fiver percent of people suffering with HIV will experience a rash at one point or another.

Two to three weeks after becoming infected with HIV, an individual may appear during the sero-conversion of the infection, This is when antibodies may develop after contracting the infection of human immunodeficiency virus. Not everyone infected will get this initial rash symptom and because rashes are common, don't conclude you have HIV if you see a rash. The red papules can look similar to different types of common rashes as well such as herpes, razor bumps or eczema. Often the rash is dark red or brown spots. For some people there is soreness and others may have itching sensations.

In many cases, someone with HIV can display symptoms similar to the development of the flu. This includes fever, swollen glands, aches and pains, and headaches. Additional symptoms can include extreme fatigue, weight loss, frequent diarrhea, regular fevers that are unexplained, stiff and painful joints, loss of memory, problems with vision, and dealing with infections all the time.

It's important to seek a medical consultation to get an analysis of the rash, especially if you are in a high risk group. If there is a diagnosis of HIV, medications today are very useful for controlling the symptoms and slowing down the progression of the infection. Unprotected sex can result in contagious rashes that also include herpes, scabies and genital warts.

Breast Cancer The Cure

You have my permission to publish this article electronically or in print, free of charge, as long as the bylines are included. A courtesy copy of your publication would be appreciated.

Breast Cancer The Cure

There is no known cure for breast cancer. More than 1.5 million people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year worldwide. Scientists don't know why most women get breast cancer, yet breast cancer is the most frequent tumor found in women the world over. A woman who dies of breast cancer is robbed of an average of nearly 20 years of her life. Breast cancer knows no social boundaries. It’s a disease that can affect anyone. Some prominent women who’s lives that have been touched by breast cancer include Jill Eikenberry actress age 52; Peggy Fleming age 49 figure skater; Kate Jackson age 50 (Charlies Angels); Olivia Newton-John age 50 actress singer; Nancy Reagan age 77 former first lady; Melissa Etheridge age 43 singer; and the beautiful Suzanne Summers actress. These high rates of breast cancer are not acceptable to the women of the world and must be met with scientific research that provides results.

Despite over a decade of research, and more than $1.7 billion spent, hundereds of women worldwide are dying from breast cancer every day. Yet doctors don’t know how breast cancer starts or how to cure it. Doctors are still approaching treatment for breast cancer in the same old fashioned ways: surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Barbarick treatments…And scientists keep doing the same old redundant research that’s simply not working. It doesn’t have to be that way. Gen Cells Cures is a scientific biotechnology company that is focused on a cure for breast cancer. The company is dedicated to curing breast cancer before it’s too late for you. We’re not interested in a cure in five, ten, or twenty years from now. We want your cure for breast cancer within a year or two. We don’t want you to have to under go surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or take toxic drugs.

Why Gen Cells Cures? You can search the medical journals; you can search the internet until your blue in the face. You will find the same old news which is no new news about breast cancer research and treatments. Breast cancer research is locked up in a black whole. Gen Cells Cures is approaching the cure for breast cancer from different angles and using tomorrow’s scientific technologies today. Our expertise is in stem cell research and genomics. Malfunctioning stem cells have already been linked to the development of breast cancer. We’re not talking about using generic stem cells from an egg and sperm cell. There is no genetic match for you with the politically controversial generic stem cells that are always in the news. The isolation of cancer stem cells, coupled with our understanding of genetic mutations causing cancer, and our knowledge of genomics will result in ways to eliminate cancer cells while sparing normal breast tissues.

Genetics and Breast Cancer

People will tell you to accept what you can’t change…Your genetics, your genes, the genes your mother and father handed you when you were born that came with their particular genetic make-up. Most inherited cases of breast cancer have been associated with two genes: BRCA1 and BRCA2. The past five years has been a period of unparalleled discovery in the field of genetics, genomics, and stem cell research, but these discoveries are not being applied to breast cancer treatments.

A job that Gen Cells Cures definitely wants to get our hands dirty in. Recently researchers have found that by blocking a gene called beta1-integrin the growth of tumor cells can be stopped. When this gene was removed the tumor cells quit growing. You don’t have to accept the genes that you were given at birth. Gen Cells Cures will be able to manipulate your genes to cure your breast cancer.

Our Cancer Stem Cell and Genomics Program will bring together the top scientific minds in the world under one tin roof to maximize the use of diverse approaches to the understanding of cancer genomics fused with stem cell solutions. Gen Cells Cures isn’t looking for a multi-million dollar biomedical research center like the Stowers Institute in Kansas City, which is a medical center to be admired.

A rented tin shack will do just fine. Of course, we would accept hand-me down michroscopes from the Stoweres (billionaires who bought their own multi-million dollar biomedical research center) if they would be gracious enough to grant them to us or we would accept a small prime the pump check to move forward with our research. The Stowerses and all the scientists from the Stowers Institute have an open invitation to visit our lab in the Caribbean. What we are looking for is a cure for breast cancer to stop the humiliation, pain and suffering this menace to society causes millions of women and thousands of men worldwide, and not a new biomedical center… Every dollar invested with us goes into pure medical research and equipment.

The same offer goes out to all the millionaires and especially the billionaires of the world. People that come to mind are: Paul Allen, Bill and Melinda Gates, Jon Huntsman, William and Alice Goodman, Ann Lurie, Jamie and Karen Moyer, Harold C. Simmons, Alfred Mann, Sumner M. Redstone, Michael Milton and the Palm beach billionaires, there are simply too many to mention. The combined wealth of the three Microsoft billionaires alone is more than ten times the amount spent by the U.S. Federal Government on research to fight cancer and other deadly diseases. We know we’re in the wrong business to become billionaires ourselves. This kind of biotechnology has never produced even one billionaire. It’s the cure for breast cancer that we want.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer - 3 Ways Detect it Early
In the previous years, women aged 60 and above were the ones most prone to cervical cancer. But with the 2009 report, an alarming 58% of these cases were women within the age range of 40 and 50 years old only. With such stats, it is therefore important to know the signs of cervical carcinoma so that its symptoms can be contained. Advanced cases of this type of medical condition can become invasive, which means that there is a very good chance that the cancer cells will afflict surround tissues and muscles as well.

So what are the most common signs of cervical cancer?

1. Abnormal vaginal bleeding. Abnormal bleeding or signs of unusual blood spotting is one of the more common signs of the pre-cancer stages of the cervix. It may come in various forms like: blood spotting between menstrual periods, bouts of heavy and light menstruation, vaginal bleeding after sex, blood spotting after the menopausal stage and even vaginal bleeding after douching. In some cases, the woman may experience unusual discharge between menstruation's.

2. Pain during sexual intercourse. Vaginal bleeding is often preceded by pain during sexual intercourse. This may be due to the increased sensitivity or inflammation of the tissues and muscles of the cervix. In advanced stages, pain in this area is an indication that the cancer cells have already spread out to the surrounding areas.

3. Pain during normal bodily functions. Two other signs of cervical cancer include pain during peeing and bowel movement. Pain brought about by UTI or urinary tract infection is another indication that the muscles of the reproductive system is on a hyper sensitive stage.
